Lindsey Paton Garner
Lindsey grew up on the family horse farm in Langley, Canada her mom a breeder and her dad a sport horse veterinarian. From a young age Lindsey loved all aspects of raising horses and felt a deep love and appreciation for these incredible animals. As a junior rider Lindsey often traveled with her dad on calls, helped to care for horses at their farm and started and competed the horses her mom bred under the tutelage of some of the West Coast's top trainers in the hunter, equitation and jumper divisions. After graduating school Lindsey was at first passionate about a career in journalism, but soon realized she missed life without horses and in 2001 started her professional career. Lindsey was soon running a large training program in Langley BC called "Coast Point Farms" with horses and students competing to the Grand Prix level. With this groups Lindsey often traveled to shows up and down the West Coast of Canada and the US. One of these shows was the High Desert Classic, and it was during her regular stay in Bend in July for this event that she fell in love with Bend. In 2008 Lindsey's good friend and renowned horseman Gary Henley convinced Lindsey to move her training program to Bend for good.
After moving to Bend Lindsey continued to teach but put her own riding career on hold to focus on spending more time with her young children. In 2016 fellow mom and trainer, Tara Niculescu joined the Capstone team and along with Tara and her family's support, Lindsey grew Capstone into the region's top competitive equestrian training program.
In 2017 Capstone's flagship horse, Capilano HF joined Lindsey and together these two have taken the West Coast by storm, winning the High Desert Classic Grand Prix back to back in 2017 and 2018, qualifying for and competing in the AIG Million in Coachella, winning the Johnston Transport Welcome Grand Prix in 2017, placing 5th in the Maui Jim Grand Prix at Thunderbird showpark in 2018, placing 2nd in the Atco Barrage at Spruce Meadows in 2018 and stepping in to the FEI division this year with big goals for upcoming International competition.
Lindsey is passionate about horse welfare in our sport, believing that the interests and care of the horses should always come first, and that horses should aways be given the best training, conditioning and care which is why Capstone horses are known to enjoy their job, be successful, healthy, happy and sound, and of course get to be "horses"!. She also has a strong belief that any horse crazy kid with a passion for the sport and the will to work hard should have an opportunity to ride, learn and compete and for this reason has always had a strong internship program for young riders. Lindsey is very interested in the science and psychology behind coaching and developing young athletes and you can almost always find her reading the latest book on athlete development, motivation and sport psychology.
Lindsey lives in NWX with her very supportive husband, Matt, who is an architectural photographer and realtor, and her two wonderful children Karson and Caroline. When not at the barn or on the road Lindsey can be found gardening, playing with her kids, working out, reading, skiing, hiking or painting.
